Dundori is a rural community in the hills surrounding Nakuru, Kenya's 4th largest city.
The work here started about30 years ago, when Daniel Gitau, a Kenyan evangelist, ran a crusade here, There were about 30 new converts as a result, all young people, and mostly with desperate needs. To cut the story short, Daniel felt called to pastor these young people, and a congregation formed which quickly grew to 100 people, including these young people.
One of those who joined the new congregation was Gideon Oiengo, the local government Clinical Officer, who ran the Government Clinic in Dundori. He was dissatisfied with his work, as he had to turn away many of those needing treatment because they couldn't afford to pay. He got together with Daniel and discussed the matter, and after deep thought and prayer, they decided to start a church clinic, which would treat all comers, regardless of their ability to pay. So Gideon resigned from, Government service, they rented some rooms, and the church clinic opened!
From these simple beginnings in the early 90s, the work has grown, moved rented premises several times and since 2008 they have had their own centre (with no rent to pay!) The centre now contains a pharmacy, a laboratory and several treatment rooms (see photos), and is highly respected in the area for its service to the community.
Over the years the congregation in Dundori grew to around 200. The local council liked what they were doing with the clinic and donated a plot of land on which they could build their church, Daniel has always been part of the "Christco" denominational movement in Kenya, and at the end of the 90s the leadership saw what he was doing, and asked him to take charge of two extra churches. These were at a small village called Kamwaura, and in a medium sized town called Molo. both of which were a good distance from Dundori.
However, while pastoring the Dundori church, Daniel had been developing a leadership team to look after different areas of the ministry there -
Since then, other churches have been added to Daniel’s ministry, and there are now (in 2020) 10 churches. His denomination, Christco, has promoted him to “Presbyter”, which is equivalent to “Bishop” in most other denominations. The 10 churches are pastored by those who have grown up with his ministry. They are all ‘servant-
